State of the Race

This campaign will be the most competitive race in the North Carolina State Senate. In 2018, I defeated a four-term incumbent by less than 440 votes. This year’s election is a rematch of that race, and you can bet my opponent and Senate Majority Leader Phil Berger will stop at nothing to win back this seat. Thanks to our efforts in 2018, Democrats are now on the cusp of retaking the majority in the state senate. However, one thing is clear: Democrats cannot retake the majority unless we hold onto my seat.

The recent Coronavirus outbreak has changed the nature of my campaign. Given current public health information, we will be unable to host in-person events for the foreseeable future. Instead of relying on a strong ground game, my campaign will also have to spend more resources to communicate with voters digitally and via cable television. Additionally, my duties as a State Senator require me to take a step back from my campaign to better serve my constituents.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you personally; I need your help. Your donation will ensure my campaign has the resources it needs to win this election and help Democrats retake the majority.

Why I’m Running

I can still remember watching my mother work multiple jobs to make sure her children would have a life better than the one she had. Despite the ups and downs in my life, witnessing her hard work and sacrifice established the foundation of my character and my values that would guide me throughout life. It was that foundation that led me to serve our country for over a decade in the US Army before moving to Fayetteville to start a business.

I am running for re-election to the state senate because I have witnessed first-hand how our state legislators continue to leave people behind. We are at a crossroad: we can either continue the status quo which has not worked for our families, or we can elect leaders who will bring people together to help build a better future for the next generation. That’s why I will continue to fight to expand health care so no one is denied medical care. It’s why I won’t stop working until every child is able to receive a quality education, and our educators are rewarded for their hard work. And it’s why I will fight to protect our drinking water and hold corporate polluters accountable. Above all, I am committed to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to prosper.
